With their fourth installment Megalorama Part II, Austrian space rock formation Aerolith continue their exploration of deeper territories of space rock.

Just as the predecessor, Part I, this record dives into a darker heavier realm. Following the kraut rock tradition of shamelessly borrowing stylistic motives from other genres, these songs incorporate heavy stoner rock elements, prog rock, and doom metal parts. The use of complex harmonic scales and some odd rhythms make all this a bit experimental, while the solid base of melancholic and repetitive spacy riff patterns holds it all together.

With its greater stylistic variety and exporative approach to composition, this album is a recommendation for lovers of heavy psychedelic rock and proggy space rock. It is recommended to enjoy this together with part I as a whole.

Auf „Megalorama Part II“ perfektioniert das Keyboards/Drums/Gitarre-Trio aus Bischofshofen, Österreich weiter das seit vier Alben konsequent verfolgte gesangsfreie musikalische Konzept. Die Stücke sind derart diszipliniert komponiert und präzise umgesetzt, dass ich fast geneigt bin, von mathematischer Genauigkeit zu schreiben, die in der Welt der Prog-Fans gerne mit dem Begriff Mathrock beschrieben wird.

Die Stücke von Areolith bestehen oft aus ineinander verzahnten und repetitiven Motiven, die zum Beispiel in „Parallel Dimension“ auf die Art variieren, die mich doch sehr an die Vorgehensweise von Robert Fripp, dem Leiter der Musikgruppe King Crimson erinnert...

In diesem Sinn stehen „Aerolith“ international bekannten Acts wie „Monkey3“, „35007“ oder natürlich „My Sleeping Karma“ ideell nahe. Unterm Strich unterhält „Megalorama Part II“ knapp 40 Minuten lang trefflich als Verdichtung dessen, was psychedelische Rockmusik im weiteren Sinn groß gemacht hat; alles andere – endlose Jams, geräuschvoller Leerlauf, der als „Ambient“ verklärt wird – erspart uns die Band, die sich freuen wird, wenn Leser dieser Zeilen je eines der 150 Exemplare des Albums auf schwarzem Vinyl bei ihr ordert.

Mit einem deutlichen Hang zur stilistischen Vielfalt und progressiven Klängen, welche die Welten des Space-, Kraut-, Psyche-, Post-, Stoner- und Metal-Rocks ausloten, hinterlassen sie ihren eigenen kleinen Planeten inmitten des sehr dunkel erscheinenden Prog-Universums, das allerdings auch das eine oder andere hawkwindsche oder floydianische Vorbild preisgibt.

Wer sich bei der Tracklist wundert, dass hier nur vier Tracks zu finden seien, dem sei gesagt, dass die drei Herren einen Mix aus Prog- und Space Rock ohne Gesang liefern und somit vier ausufernde Tracks zwischen 7 und zwölf Minten anbieten.
